Capacity: Building Physical Structures

We often think of our work in four pillars “Build. Grow. Cook. Heal”. The Build pillar not only focuses on relationship building and collaboration that we hold as core values but also physically building infrastructure that supports small farmers. Collective Work and Responsibility (Ujima) is a founding principle of Fresher Together. Its symbol is even a feature of our main logo. In farming communities collective work has been key to success, many are familiar with events like “barn raising”.

All Bodies. All Abilities. All Welcome.

Fresher Together hosts community build days to bring together many hands that support small farmers in ways with a big impact. These include activities like building wash pack stations, assembling or adding plastic to hoop houses, bed building, etc.  These build days are not only beneficial to the farms that we are assisting but they also offer the opportunity to teach important skills that are not often taught to black and brown people in accessible ways. We have done building projects that include wash pack stations, assembling/adding plastic to hoop houses, bed building, and more. We hope to create more hands-on opportunities as well as virtual skill-building workshops.
